Three large industry teams are preparing quick-response bids for the U.S. Air Force's 15-year, $1.5-billion Integrated Space Command and Control contract, which eventually will give military space and theater commanders the ability to view a common picture of global-scale battlefields. While the program is being hailed as a model of acquisition reform, there are not enough funds in the federal budget to get ISC2 beyond its sixth year, according to a former senior Defense Dept. official. There may be efforts underway to link the program to national missile defense or information operations in order to stabilize funding. Both enjoy strong congressional support, he said.
