A Cessna 150's flight into prohibited Washington airspace not only sent the U.S.' terror and anxiety levels soaring―it appears to be regenerating a belief that general aviation is a "soft" target for terrorists. The May 11 event occurs as general aviation is garnering strong legislative support to regain access to Reagan Washington National Airport, closed to the sector since Sept. 11, 2001. Since the attacks, GA has worked closely with the Transportation Security Administration to build security programs that would allow unfettered GA operations. Reagan, located in the District of Columbia, is considered a vulnerable target because it lies in proximity to the seat of the U.S. government. In April, the House aviation subcommittee introduced a bill to reopen Reagan to general aviation.
