Lufthansa plans to increase its stake in Swiss International Air Lines to 49% in the coming days, following last week's regulatory approval from U.S. and European competition authorities to proceed with the deal. Europe's second-largest airline earlier this year announced its intention to take over Swiss and integrate it into its growing portfolio of airlines. Lufthansa plans to take full control of Swiss, once all relevant bilateral air service agreements between Switzerland and third countries have been amended to reflect that control. The step is planned no earlier than 2006.
