The greatest thing about going to the Warbirds Over Delaware giant-scale fly-in is that you never know what's going to show up on the flightline. This year was the event's 20th anniversary and more than 200 pilots registered for the festivities at Lums Pond State Park in Newark, DE. One of this year's nicest entries was an electric-powered B-17 Flying Fortress built and flown by Trent Wilhelm of Salisbury, NC. Trent built his four-engine bomber from Jan Hermkens plans (janhermkens.nl) and it has an impressive 125-inch wing-span, which makes it Mo scale. It took Trent about 12 months to build his bomber even with the help of his friend Jerry Strictland. Weighing in at about 34 pounds, the Nine-O-Nine features all-wood construction and is finished with ~3/_4-ounce fiberglass cloth and resin.
