Clinker production is energy intensive and with spiralling energy overheads economics favour low energy costs and as such the installation of smaller local grinding plants using imported clinker becomes more attractive. The worldwide movement of cement clinker to satisfy these changing trading patterns is a natural extension of this philosophy requiring new ship loading and discharge facilities plus equipment at the cement or grinding plant to receive the imported material.
