I was once doing some repairs for an owner on his racing yacht. I'd completed everything, and yet he hadn't paid the bill. I heard on the grapevine that a trucker was coming to collect the boat and take it to Florida and, fearing that I'd never get the money, I took the somewhat drastic decision to chain the yacht up with a sign saying "mechanic's lien." Sure enough, I got a call a few days later from the boatyard, asking what was up. "I haven't been paid," I explained to the yard. "That's weird," they replied, "we haven't either." When the trucker arrived he revealed that he too was out of pocket - what's more, his wife was due to give birth imminently, so he was understandably keen for a speedy turnaround.
