One-way kegs allow microbreweries to add keg beer to their range without the need to invest in filling and cleaning machines. Example costs for such equipment, according to production equipment specialists Vigo Ltd, are keg washers from £15k with their smallest model of combined keg filler and washer priced around £35k. Larger models with greater throughput can easily cost £60k. Add to this the cost for a supply of kegs. Thirty-litre steel kegs are similar in price to nine gallon casks, around £70 each. One way kegs cost around £12-14, which soon adds up for brewers putting significant amounts in keg, but as they are single use there is no added cost for collecting or cleaning them.
