Permanent Way This department was supervised by Inspector Joe Hall, based at Stratford upon Avon, who covered the line from Broom Junction to Towcester. Jim Campion was the ganger of the Towcester mobile gang and the sub ganger Fred Eales. Lengthmen included Bro' Sturgess, Bill Jackson, Jim Snelson, Albert Powell, brothers Bill and Charlie Woodward, Stan Hayle and Ben Dunckley. A motor trolley driven by Frank Stopps conveyed the men over their lengths from Towcester to Cockley Brake Junction, to just short of Blakesley, to Blis-worth and to Ravenstone Wood Junction. The trolley system was installed by the LMS in about 1930 with key boxes linked to the ETS circuit and control equipment in the signal boxes. "It was a ritual each morning for Jim Campion to ring up Joe Hall from the box. This was so that Jim could get any special instructions for the day as well as . to tell Joe what he and his men would be doing that day."
