Numerous Canadian utilities are still picking up the pieces from the rare and viscous ice storm that occurred a week before Christmas. The National Post in Toronto referred to the ice storm as, "the worst since 1998". The steady dose of freezing rain affected Southern Ontario, Quebec, and Canada's eastern provinces. In Ontario alone, over 400,000 customers lost power. The freezing rain sagged power lines and caused ice build-up on trees. From there, tree limbs and branches came down taking out power lines and resulting in electricity disruption. Utilities sent out field crews to restore service to customers. Some customers had power restored within hours. Others did not have power restored for days.
