U.S. President Barrack Obama made the federal government's agenda clear in June 2011 that smart grid standards would be developed to help regulate the ever-changing, ever-evolving electrical industry. In fact, six new standards have already been approved by government and industry representatives to guide innovators into developing a "smart" distribution grid.This group of representatives, also known as the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel, was assembled to establish the blue prints that'll help fill in the technical holes and mold a solid smart-grid framework. This panel was established by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), a U.S. federal technology agency that works with different industries to develop and apply technology, measurements, and standards.
