When looking for solutions to challenging customer applications, utilities should consider cellular radio frequency (RF) using public networks. Public cellular network coverage is extensive and requires no build out or maintenance, especially if utilities have compatibility with multiple providers. By utilizing the technology within the cellular networks, utilities can easily have the flexibility to add applications and new services without adding infrastructure. A whole series of advanced metering features can be selectively deployed such as remote connect/disconnect, read on-demand, time-of-use, prepay metering, net metering and voltage sensing. With essentially no set-up cost and without a full scale rollout, utilities can add these features cost effectively almost anywhere in their service territories.
