With the various nuclear companies licking their chops over the explosion of new-build plants on the drawing board, the pronouncement from FERC's chairman Jon Wellinghoff must have left them gasping for air.rnIn his view, a greater efficiency of renewable deployment should preclude the need for any new coal or nuclear plants in the United States. Ever.rnThis statement, made at a recent Energy Association forum, did draw criticism from those assembled. The best argument made being that you need firm, steady, reliable power for baseload generation, and currently wind and solar do not provide it.
