Conferences have long been the communication venue for electric industry participants. They were an opportunity for noted industry figures to make presentations on new innovative technologies or the state of the industry. Vendors could display their wares while delegates browsed through exhibitions and discussed issues with old friends. In recent years, however, conferences have become a very important communication tool, especially with ongoing regulatory changes, supply and demand issues and catastrophes such as the August 14th power outage. The 5th Annual EnerCom Energy Conference in Toronto provides professionals an oppor- tunity to gather for a two day exhibition and conference where a variety of speakers will cover these and other key issues. John Wiersma, Chair of the Board of Veridian Corporation, a local distribution company (LDC) in Ontario, will speak to utilities about becoming better commercial entities to meet the needs of their customers and discuss opportunities for achieving greater efficiencies in Ontario's Electric Distribution Industry. "I believe that I have a story to tell on the evolution of the electric distribution utility and will use whatever forum is suitable to stimulate dialogue," Wiersma said.
