Regional and trans-boundary issues such as NOx trading are driving renewed interest in "Predictive" emission monitoring systems (PEMs) among users of gas-fired turbines. At the same time, trends are in motion that will see increased acceptance of these computer-based systems compared to the more traditional methods such as Continuous Emission Monitoring systems (CEMs). As gas-powered generation is overwhelmingly the choice of New Independent Power Producers and for new capacity in the major utilities, it is important for all members of the energy sector to become familiar with the relative merits of this fast-improving technology.
