摘要

A power outage at Morningside Road and Sheppard Avenue in Toronto would affect people in their homes, workers at a local aggregate yard and employees and customers at the neighbourhood Home Depot. It could damage or destroy electrical equipment with many years of useful life left and it would require emergency crews to fix the problem. So anything that can predict an electrical power problem before any impact is felt, makes lots of sense. The infrared scanning at Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited is performed by trained Protection and Control (P&C) technicians to assess different parts of the electrical distribution system and is essential to safeguard the system's integrity. Predictive maintenance helps make certain the supply of power remains steady, stable, safe and uninterrupted. Increased reliability, plus less down time equals satisfied customers and enhanced worker safety. Toronto Hydro has two crews of P&C technicians who perform infrared scanning. All are certified thermographers. They receive a week's classroom instruction, six months of field training and in-class tests.
