摘要

COP26 in Glasgow in November is proving to be a galvanising force for sweeping global - and national - decarbonisation promises and predictions. Entire economic sectors, such as coal, are being swept away by this wave of global policy-making consensus. Citizens across the world and, according to the opinion polls, in the UK in particular, are now overwhelmingly aware of the need to act on climate change and this in turn is influencing everyone from politicians to pension providers. For anyone who has not yet seen it, the BBC iPlayer programme, People versus Climate Change, a report of last year's Climate Assembly commissioned by a number of parliamentary select committees, is a must-watch. Residential purchasers are increasingly aware of the environmental performance of homes, which in the UK produce 21% of the country's carbon dioxide emissions through burning gas. Influential global organisations such as the International Energy Authority are predicting a halving of these emissions from homes globally over the next decade, and others suggest that the UK's contribution needs to be closer to a 90% reduction by 2030.
