America's industrial landscapes contain many evocative clusters of subsidized housing built by a parent company for its work- ers. Usually peripheral to a company's manufacturing or mining structures, these modest worker dwellings serve as physical reminders of the difficult and sometimes dramatic struggles of their inhabitants for dignity and equality.
