The new Nigerian government of President Muham-madu Buhari has unveiled its national rail plan, which includes the provision of coal-carrying capacity. Nigeria has coal reserves of its own, but they are largely unused, apart from as a feedstock in some cement production plants. The 25-year strategy replaces the previous administration's long-term plan, which included several multi-billion dollar stalled contracts with Chinese firms for the construction of new lines.
