Steel producer ArcelorMittal South Africa has agreed to pay a fine of R1.5B (US$110M) for its involvement in steel and scrap metal cartels in South Africa. The fine is payable over five years, starting next year. The company effectively admitted the charges brought against it by the Competition Commission of South Africa, and stated: "The company has implemented a number of important initiatives to ensure that this conduct will never again occur within ArcelorMittal South Africa".
