The first session, on 27th May 2014, was attended by 44 voting national members. One National Member and one Associate Member had sent apologies for absence. Members of other categories were also in attendance but, according to the IALA Constitution, only National Members present can take part in the vote. The IALA President, Mr. David Gordon of South Africa, opened the meeting at 16h30 explaining that the Assembly would be presented with information on the financial position of IALA, potential change of status to that of an international intergovernmental organization and strategic direction. National Members would then be called to vote on two important Agenda items, i.e. the Approval of a Resolution in regard to IALA's intention to seek international intergovernmental organization status, and changes to the IALA Constitution.
