Lim, Hyun-churl was appointed as Assistant Minister for Maritime Affairs and Safety Policy Bureau of Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) in April 2013. He is in charge of maritime safety and marine pollution prevention, implementing regulations under the International Maritime Organization and promoting maritime industry and culture for safe and clean ocean. Lim, Hyun Churl holds a bachelor's degree in Law obtained from Kyung Hee University in Seoul in August 1985. He was a graduate student at Public Administration School in Seoul National University from March 1988 to February 1990, and at Marine Affairs Program in the University of Rhode Island from August 1999 to December 2001. Lim's career with MOMAF (which became MLTM and then MOF) began in March 1997 as Deputy Director of Port Policy Division. He had previously worked for the Ministry of Government Legislation from April 1994 for three years and served as Public Information Officer in the Republic of Korea Navy from March 1991 to March 1994 to perform mandatory military service. Lim also worked as the First Secretary for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the United States of America from August 2004 to August 2007. As Maritime Attaché, he was in charge of shipping, port security, fisheries, and ocean research and development. Lim held several management positions within Korean Government Departments.
