Chemical modifications of natural silk are thoroughly reviewed. A reaction of silk fibres with various epoxides either mono - or multifunctional is given. Study of the chemical modification of silk fibres with organic acids, anhydrides, organic solvents, different finishing agents, chitosan and metal salts are thoroughly investigated.
