Le commerce des animaux exotiques et de leurs produits pose un certain nombre de problèmes non résolus à ce jour en matière de sécurité sanitaire. La diversité des espèces et des origines géographiques rend possible l'arrivée en France de très nombreux germes pathogènes. Les maladies des espèces commercialisées sont loin d'être toutes connues et leurs risques pour la santé humaine n'ont donc pas été évalués. Quelques exemples récents illustrent ce propos pour des virus comme la rage ou les agents de fièvres hémorragiques ou pour des bactéries comme celles de la peste et de la tuberculose. La réponse à ces questions passe par des avancées en termes de réglementation, de centre national de référence et surtout d'information et de responsabilisation du public et des filières concernées.%Trade in exotic animals and their products poses a number of problems that have yet to be solved in term of sanitary safety. The diversity of species and geographical origins makes possible the arrival in France of many different pathogens. The diseases linked to the species seen on the market are far from being all known, hence their risks have not yet been assessed in terms of public health. A few recent examples shed light on this topic, for viruses, such as those of rabies and haemorrhagic fever, and for bacteria such as those of plague or tuberculosis. The answers to these problems depend on advances in term of legislation, national reference laboratories, and above all, an increase of information and awareness on the part of the public and the professionals involved.
