摘要

Human activities generate the destruction of natural wetlands, but also the creation of artificial wetlands such as: rice fields, gravel pits, dam lakes, etc. In the river Garonne basin, these new wetlands have become substitutes for waterbirds habitat. For studying the waterbirds distribution, weekly censuses were carried out during two years in two sites of the Garonne floodplain: the Lavernose-Lacasse and the Saint-Caprais gravel pits. The species richness and birds number are higher in Saint-Caprais gravel pits. These results are explained by 1) geographic localisation of the site ; 2) presence of recent ecosystems with habitats favourable to the installation of pioneer species like Charadrius dubius, Sterna hirundo... The species distribution is analysed with environmental parameters - vegetation, slope of the bank... - of the two sites. Human disturbance and vegetation (terrestrial and/or aquatic) are two significant factors for the presence of numerous migrants and breeding weterbirds. The carrying capacity of these ecosystems is often limited, especially concerning the Herons of which some species exhibit an important patrimonial value. This study highlights what measures of management are necessary to set up a regional agency for the waterbirds conservation.
