Crisis communication, website analysis, and celebrity apologia. The course assignments include a resume unit, three messages, a research report, and a grammar emphasis. However, the curriculum did not include an assignment that would emphasize the importance of responses to accusations of wrongdoing. This apologia assignment is an introduction to one area of crisis communication and is intended to identify elements of an apology, specifically focusing on the manner and the content of the apology (Hearit, 2006). Students also analyze the corporation's website based on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's (2000) website guidelines. Students are encouraged to identify corporations that have had recalls. They are also allowed to select a celebrity* because celebrities are often associated through branding with corporations. Students analyze their own response to the apology.
