The appearance of any white differs throughout the day, whether because of shifts in sunlight or the glow of artificial bulbs, explains Liz Michael, whose Gris Paints Ltd. specializes solely in the gray spectrum. Cover a larger portion of the wall rather than using a chip-think 8.5 inches by 11 inches at least-and leave it up for several days. "See how the light changes it," she advises. "Depending on the type of home you have, how much light you get, it's going to look very different."
