Innovative new business models can be plagued by uncertainty, given their reliance on unproven factors. But even traditional enterprises often fall prey to gnarly unknowns. Evolving trends such as globalization, climate shift and ambiguous regulation have made once-routine operations unpredictable. The positive news? According to Craig Fundum, uncertainty isn't as hazardous as it used to be. Variables, unknowns-even a catastrophe-can be factors in a strategic risk management framework that's able to withstand severe stress. "Our capacity to harvest and analyze data is exponentially greater than a generation ago," says Fundum, President, Commercial Markets at Zurich in North America. "We've moved to a new level of service because we found much more sophisticated methods of measuring and pricing risk."
