Historically, when the electrical and electronic equipment the world has grown dependent upon wore out, it has been thrown away. Tossed into the trash heap along with these appliances are their component materials-metals, plastic, glass and so on-many of which are expected to be in short supply in the near future. Around the world, governments are reacting to this wastefulness by introducing legislation and regulations that make it mandatory to recycle home appliances.
