摘要

Some 2 million feral pigs are plaguing Texas pastures—causing more than $50 million in damage yearly as they tear up grasslands and feast on crops. Ranchers and farmers have fought back, but the pigs—descendants of farm hogs that mated with Russian boars imported in the 1930s for hunting—have prevailed over guns, dogs, and snares. "The buggers are smart enough to avoid the traps," says Bill Hyman, who heads the Independent Cattlemen's Association of Texas.
