On a still October afternoon, david Kolsrud is gearing up tor the harvest. Today, he'll reap some 30 acres of soybeans on his 500-acre farm in Beaver Creek, Minn. His son, Chris, mans a 12-ton combine, a mechanized harvester that sweeps up whole plants and shoots out a steady stream of beans. This evening, Kolsrud will head off to a grain elevator over the border in South Dakota to deliver 1,100 bushels of them. As if all this weren't enough to manage, the 58-year-old Kolsrud also runs a burgeoning energy business.
