On April 20, an explosion ripped through Transocean's Deepwater Horizon drilling rig. Fires raged for two days on the rig, under contract by British Petroleum, when a second explosion occurred, sinking the semi-submersible rig. The resulting damage to the subsea infrastructure set in motion what has become one of the worst environmental disasters in U.S. history - one that could have a long-lasting impact on the Gulf of Mexico and the satellite sector that operates throughout the region.
