Since its birth, television has often been seen as a menace for public health. Critics repeatedly allege the detrimental impact of television viewing on couch potatoes, while parents yelling at their kids "Stop watching TV, go and play outside!" became a well-known cliché. But does television bring nothing but harm? In Prescription TV, Joy V. Fuqua pushes readers to rethink these clichés by offering a rich and nuanced analysis of television's role in modern society. Approaching this issue from a Media and Cultural Studies point of view, Fuqua examines television's material and discursive shaping of viewers in hospitals and homes.
