摘要

Unquestionably, the most significant force of future change facing the Lake Simcoe watershed is population growth and the ensuing needs for supporting infrastructure, land and water resources. The change in land use which will be necessary to accommodate the hundreds of thousands of additional people who will make their home in the Lake Simcoe basin will be significant. It is estimated that the watershed population will more than double by the year 2031 to more than half a million full-time residents. In the shadow of this substantial growth it isn't surprising that one of the most frequently asked question on people's mind is can the watershed and the lake accommodate this growth and remain healthy given the existing problems with water quality, especially phosphorus loading?
