As You Will read elsewhere Robin Evans, Chief Executive of the Canal & River Trust (and, for the previous decade, of British Waterways) is leaving in May. Given that he is perceived by some in the waterways movement as 'anti restoration1 (which he vigorously denies), should we celebrate? I'm not so sure. Yes, I remember the days of his predecessor Dave Fletcher; when over 100 miles of waterway opened in a couple of years as the Huddersfield, Rochdale, Ribble Link, Forth & Clyde, Union and Anderton Lift schemes, all backed in their latter stages by BW, came to fruition.
