The Hershey Co. has announced plans to close two of its manufacturing facilities in 2009. According to the Associated Press, the facilities are Hershey's West Berkeley, Calif, plant, which manufactures Scharffen Berger chocolates, and its San Francisco facility, which makes Joseph Schmidt chocolates. Artisan Confections Company, a subsidiary of The Hershey Co., first acquired the companies and their assets in August 2005. The AP article states that about 150 jobs will be affected by the closures and the brands will continue to be manufactured, but not locally.
