On 8 March, US-based Northrop Grumman Corp formally announced that it would not submit a bid to the US Department of Defense for the KC-X refueling tanker program. Northrop also said in its announcement that although it felt it had grounds to support a protest, it would not do so. Northrop has participated in the process up to this point in partnership with European aerospace giant EADS, and unless EADS takes the extremely unlikely step of entering a bid or a protest on its own, Boeing is left as the only competitor for a contract likely to be worth over $35 billion.
