In our summary of the 2008 turboprop freighter fleet (published in March 2009), we pointed out that growth in demand for turboprop freighters in the 3-to-9 tonne payload category had stalled after several years of strong growth. This was mostly a result of weakening demand for feeder lift by the big express companies as package volumes declined in Europe and North America. However, our summary of the 2008 fleet included units awaiting conversion. A year later, it is clear that many of those conversion plans have been cancelled or indefinitely postponed, and that what we viewed as a stalling of growth in the fleet was actually a slight decline.
