On 15th November 2012, 19 industry sectors, including CEMBUREAU, called on the European Commission to identify an appropriate regulatory solution for respirable crystalline silica (RCS). This statement comes as a result of recent discussions surrounding a revision of the Carcinogens Directive (2004/37/ EC). The signatories believe that this Directive would not provide a suitable regulatory solution for RCS handling and use at the workplace. In their view, the best regulatory solution would be to include a Binding European OEL (BLV) of 0.1 mg/m~3 under the Chemical Agents Directive (98/24/EC).
