India's ship building major, the ABG Group has been in touch with private equity and financial companies for the sale of a minority stake in its subsidiary ABG Cement Ltd, for about US$ 150 million. ABG Cement is a 6.5 million t/a project coming up in Kutch, Gujarat. The plant has its own captive limestone mines and jetty facility and is likely to be commissioned any time now. The prominent private equity (PE) companies like Blackstone and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Co (KKR) are understood to have had some preliminary discussions with the management and the group could offload up to 49.9% of its holding in the cement business. Raising of the funds is being managed by the investment banking company 03 Capital Global Advisory Pvt Ltd. It may be noted that the stake sale by ABG is happening alongside similar activities at Lafarge and Jaiprakash Associates in the Indian cement sector.
