The innovative tenant moving into space formerly occupied by Laneco Department Store in Allentown, Pa.'s Trexler Mall is not a multiscreen theater with stadium seating or a bookstore that serves cups of cafe latte with its literature. Rather, the new tenant in this supermarket-anchored strip center will be The Wellness Place, a 50,000-sq.-ft. medical facility with outpatient services provided by a local hospital. The Wellness Place is not just another medical building. In addition to health care, retail and food shops also will reside under one roof. That combination, say its developers—a joint venture between Anchor Health Properties, Wilmington, Del., and Kimco Realty Corp., New Hyde Park, N.Y.—will play off what they believe is a natural synergy between health care and retail.
