Often viewing themselves as being ahead of the rest of the retail industry when it comes to their in-store use of technology, supermarkets are now turning their attention to how technology and training can be used to improve inventory-management within their organizations and further enhance customer service. Like other retailers participating in this year's annual survey of inventory-management trends, a majority of the supermarket respondents (75%) believe that maintaining inventory integrity (referring to the accuracy of each item's quantity-on-hand in the store master file) is "very or somewhat important." This obviously plays a huge role in their ability to keep out-of-stocks from occurring, especially in busy, "must-have" times of year.
