Generally highly dependent upon having the merchandise on hand to take advantage of the fashions of the moment, most specialty soft-goods retailers are extremely attuned to the need to maintain accurate inventory information on as a timely a basis as possible. That, for example, is one of the reasons why 92% of the specialty retailers surveyed are currently maintaining a perpetual unit inventory, allowing them to immediately identify any exceptions that may be occurring in inventory flow into and out of their stores. Likewise, they are on top of what is actually happening in the stores, depending not only on POS data, but also on the information on the unit, sku and location level that's being collected when inventories are performed by 92% of the retailers surveyed.
