Retail companies will continue to invest in technology this year, despite the fact that many of. their systems are relatively new. That's the word from Edward Saettone, editor of the 1998 Market Study of Retail Technology. Saettone, of Lebhar-Friedman's Tampa, Fla.-based Chain Store Guide division, a sister division of Chain Store Age, polled 1,491 retail companies representing 309,219 stores. Figures listed in the 826-page study are chain-specific. Only chains with 25 or more stores were surveyed.
