摘要

The authors believe that a serious move toward a political union is probably necessary to save the euro. However, current arrangements are not yet adequate to get us there. Recent and not-so-recent development in the eurozone, especially since the eruption of the financial crisis and the associated Great Recession, for which there were major signs in August 2007 (with the freezing of the U.S. banking sector, but also in Europe, especially in the UK, where difficulties with financial institutions such as UK's Northern Rock emerged) and intensification in September 2008 (marked by the collapse of Lehman Brothers) pose an interest-ing question for the eurozone. This is whether moves to a de factc political union are emerging among the members of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU).
