There is at last some optimism that the world economy may have gotten past its biggest crisis since the Great Depression and can regain strength, even if slowly. But has the world solved its economic problems? Not very likely, writes London School of Economics professor Robert Wade. The economy remains weak, and new financial regulations are inadequate. Most important, the underlying conditions of income inequality and imbalances in global trading have not been ameliorated. He thinks both a double-dip recession and another financial crisis are distinct possibilities. It is not time to relax.
