The remarkable credit crisis of 2008 has tested the thinking of all economists and policymakers. But among the most inclusive explanations of the issues this editor has seen is offered up here by James K. Galbraith. Galbraith headed a group of economists who discussed the matters in Paris recently. They had an international perspective, but their proposed plan for the United States includes an aggressive round of domestic investment in infrastructure and energy, an expanded safety net, and an orientation of private capital investment to complement public purposes.
