While China can produce engine systems for most military platforms, it has been unable to do so for most high-performance platforms, such as fighter aircraft and destroyers - with the exception of submarines. Russia supplies Salyut AL-31FN jet engines for use in China's J-10 and J l1A/B fighter jets. In July 2011, Russia announced the sale of a further 123 of these engines from Russia's NPO Saturn for over US$500mn.
