China's official defence budget for 2013 stands at CNY720.2bn (US$116.8bn), as announced during the annual National People's Congress in March. Beijing said that this was a 10.7% increase on the 2012 budget, which would therefore have been CNY650.6bn, lower than the CNY670.3bn budget that was announced in 2012.
