Based on the concept of East Asia-Pacific(EAP)teleconnection which influences East Asian summer monsoon, an index for East Asian summer monsoon circulation anomaly Was defined and it was pointed out that this index can describle the interannual variation charac- Ter of summer climate in East Asia, especially in the Yangtze River and Huaihe River Valley.
