摘要

The research of the gap probability of forest canopy has been done for three de-cades. Two methods, radiative transfer and geometric optics, have been used separately in the research of model of gap probability, and both led to important results. Thisnote focuses on the combination of the two methods so as to develop a hybrid model. There is no distinction about the concept of gap probability of forest canopies in the early research. Actually the gap probability has different meanings in different aspects, so it is necessary to distinguish it. The gap probability of forest canopy is traditionally defined as a concept in statistics, and the transferring light ray is considered geometrical-optically. For the convenience of research, we distinguish the concept into statistical gap probability, geometric gap probability and physical gap probability. The physical gap probability which is more practical and convenient to measure is the emphasis of this note.
